Triennale Milano Presents Italian Painting Today: A New Scene in Buenos Aires
From June 26 to September 21, 2025, Triennale Milano and the Italian Cultural Institute in Buenos Aires will present Pittura italiana oggi. Una nuova scena (Italian Painting Today: A New Scene) at the Palacio Libertad, Centro Cultural Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. The exhibition is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with support from the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires.
Conceived by Triennale Milano and curated by Damiano Gullì—Curator of Contemporary Art and Public Programs at the Milanese institution—the exhibition is being shown outside Italy for the first time in Buenos Aires. Its presentation in the Argentine capital has been made possible through close collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, which curated and coordinated the local staging.
As the first stop on an international tour that will later continue in Brazil and Mexico, the exhibition marks a significant moment in promoting contemporary Italian painting and fostering dialogue with the Argentine public—an effort aligned with the institute’s cultural mission. The presence of artist Giulia Mangoni, who will create a site- specific work for the Buenos Aires presentation, further encourages direct exchange between the artistic communities of both countries.
Italian Painting Today: A New Scene evolved from the collective exhibition of the same name presented at Triennale Milano in 2023. It focuses on a new generation of Italian artists—born between 1990 and the 2000s—who express themselves through the medium of painting. The exhibition aims to showcase, promote, and celebrate the wealth and complexity of contemporary Italian painting in all its forms and dimensions. The project is part of Triennale’s ongoing commitment to promoting and showcasing contemporary Italian art through solo and group exhibitions, public programs, and new acquisitions for the institution’s permanent collection.
Italian Painting Today: A New Scene runs from June 26- September 21st 2025, at Palacio Libertad, Centro Cultural Domingo Faustino Sarmiento in Buenos Aires.
