Sam Baron and Co is a studio offering creative direction and design consultancy, embracing projects — from physical to digital — with a global approach. Sam Baron works together with a team of young thinkers, blending all creative skills to endeavour a challenging and original vision for its clients. A visionary creative leader Baron creates products and experiences that drive innovative ideas from concept to completion across hospitality, retail, design, fashion, and culture. With a global perspective, Baron leads sophisticated initiatives that create experience for some of the world’s leading brands. He was the creative director of Fabrica’s design area from 2007 to 2018. Baron received the "Grand Prix de la Creation de la Ville de Paris" in the design category and during the 2010 edition of Maison & Objet. Philippe Starck selected him as one of the ten important designers of the next decade. His work is continuously featured in the international press such as Monocle, Wallpaper magazine, New York Times, Le Monde, Elle and Vogue and included in international museum collections. His clients have spanned hospitality to furniture to spirits and include Pierre Frey, Hennessy, Airbnb, Dior and La Redoute. Sam Baron currently lives and works between France and Portugal.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?: Being with people I love in a space where we can all gather, feel comfortable and share unique moments
What is your greatest extravagance?: To crash in a wedding where I was not supposed to be as I had no relation with any of the guests or the brides!
What is your current state of mind?: Calm and serenity as I have time to go back to sketch and dig in my mind for undiscovered ideas which is a true pleasure
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?: Talent(ed) as it is not a virtue but it is a everyday life work
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?: "Idea" I guess, or eventually "about"
Which talent would you most like to have?: Play piano! I was not trained for music and I don't think I have good listening capacities
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?: Slow down my brain
What do you consider your greatest achievement?: I prefer to look forward, so let's say the project I will do tomorrow eventually!
If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?: A flying balloon to see freely how the world is behaving
Where would you most like to live?: I am already quite lucky in Lisbon, but in a flat with a view on the ocean and with a bit of garden would be fantastic
What is your most treasured possession?: My wedding ring as a love symbol I never took off
What is your favorite occupation?: Letting my mind go wild
What is your most marked characteristic?: Curiosity
What do you most value in your friends?: Loyalty
Who are your favorite writers?: It is so denpending of age, moods, state of mind and where I am when I read....
Who is your hero of fiction?: The baron in the trees!
Who are your heroes in real life?: The ones who help with a full commitment and no fear at all
What is it that you most dislike?: Fakeness, life is too short to play games and not be yourself and in term of food veal liver
What is your greatest regret?: Isn't it too early to have already regret? life is more about options we make and how to learn from them
