Fondazione MAST Presents FOOD for 5th Edition of Foto/Industria
Fondazione MAST presents FOOD, the fifth edition of Foto/Industria, the world’s first biennial devoted to photography on industry and work. Curated by photography critic Francesco Zanot, this year’s edition centers around the theme of food and nutrition and spans 10 exhibition venues around the historical centre of Bologna, including one at Fondazione MAST itself. This offers an immersive experience for visitors, and will run from October 14-November 28th.
FOOD is designed as a journey around the world and aims to shed light on the impact that the global food industry has on societies around the world. The theme was selected given its relevance across the spheres of biology, philosophy, history, science, politics and economics, as well as for its close relationship to the most important transformations happening on a global scale: demographics, climate change and sustainability. “Food is a fundamental indicator to analyze and comprehend entire civilizations,” Francesco Zanot states. “The modalities through which foods are produced, distributed, sold, bought and consumed are constantly changing and therefore enclose certain distinctive characters of an epoque, a historical period or a social and cultural sphere - food is language. Just like photography, food incorporates and shares messages. The result is a short circuit: any image of food is the result of a process of remediation.”
