Harry’s Launches Design with Pride to Celebrate LGBTQ Creatives
In honor of Pride, men’s care brand Harry’s debuts Design with Pride, a campaign to celebrate creative talents within the LGBTQ community, alongside a special edition Pride shave kit. Highlighting key figures within the global LGBTQ creative community, the digital experience, designed in collaboration with Spanish illustrator José Roda, allows visitors to find inspiration in the stories of each creative’s journey to personal expression and professional success. Design with Pride is a continuation of Harry’s long-standing commitment to support the LGBTQ community while showcasing their expertise and passion for design, which has been a pillar of the company since its founding in 2013.
For Pride 2020, which in most cities has been postponed or cancelled altogether, Harry’s enlisted Roda to illustrate 12 creative talents for a digital gallery space. The colorful artworks are accompanied by inspirational stories, in their own words, of what Pride means to them and how they express themselves through their creative pursuits. Representing a wide array of creative industries, the participants in Design with Pride include product designer Lee Broom, Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Formafantasma, branding maven and writer Debbie Millman, fashion designers Jeffery Costello and Robert Taglapierta of JC-RT, and artist Gilbert Baker, the original mind behind the iconic Pride flag (participating posthumously). Design with Pride aims to share their stories, lessons, and learnings with the wider community, and allow others to benefit from the way they live in the world and experience their own creativity.
Since its founding in 2013, design has been a fundamental pillar of Harry’s and a key differentiator from others in the men’s grooming and wellness category. Scott Newlin, VP of Design at Harry’s, joined the company in its infancy and built a strong design team together with the founders. His team oversees design across all touchpoints of the company - from physical products and packaging to branded environment - and their work influences business decisions at the highest level. Design leads their approach to all things and dictates how they engage with and create for their customers.
“This project is a culmination of so many things that are fundamental to us at Harry’s - supporting the LGBTQ community and working with talented, creative designers,” said Newlin. “Design with Pride truly is a celebration of the individuals that sit between these worlds, and inspire us all.”
At the same time, Harry’s has been a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ community, raising nearly $300,000 for LGBTQ organizations like The Trevor Project and GLAAD since 2018. As in years past, 100% of profits from the limited-edition Shave With Pride sets will go to non-profits focused on supporting the LGBTQ community. This year, Harry’s looks to help The Trevor Project achieve its goal of reaching 120,000 at-risk youth in the community.
