Ron Arad Collaborates with Huntsman and Morgan Motor Company on Artwork
Legendary Savile Row tailor, Huntsman, announces an exciting collaboration with artist and designer Ron Arad and the iconic British car manufacturer, Morgan Motor Company. The artwork, originally created for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, will be exhibited at Huntsman Savile Row during the rescheduled RA exhibition in October, with the details of the construction and process available to view on Huntsman’s YouTube channel.
Inspired by the blankets covering automobiles in the streets, Arad set forth on an exploration of the concept of covers as valuable objects. For his annual exhibit in the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, Arad approached Morgan about his idea to create an art piece to cover one of their models. Thinking of the cover as a garment in some respects, Arad approached Huntsman to stitch the cover for the vehicle. Bringing the heritage of Morgan and the bespoke tailoring process perfected by Huntsman for over 170 years together, the blanket will be cut to a pattern and constructed by the Huntsman cutters and tailors in house, for the Morgan to later be dressed within the Huntsman window.
‘Morgan Undercover’ is now on display at Huntsman, 11 Savile Row, and is available to view on YouTube via Huntsman’s channel. The film opens with an introduction from Huntsman's Chairman, Pierre Lagrange, Artist and Designer, Ron Arad and Director of Morgan Motor Company, Alessandro Tomé, followed by a showcase of the two artworks coming to life from construction, cutting, stitching to the final unveiling at Huntsman, No.11 Savile Row.
