Harry’s Collaborates with Illustrator Jose Roda on ‘Shave With Pride’
In June 2019, Harry’s celebrated Pride Month by partnering with Spanish illustrator and graphic designer Jose Roda for a special edition razor and kit that will continue its support for the LGBTQ+ community through a beautiful and celebratory product.
Harry’s celebrates individuality and believes that the future is brighter when each of us has the freedom to be our true selves. Jose, who himself is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, was an amazing partner in this journey. Drawing from inspirations such as Bob Mizer’s “Physique Pictorial” pictures, Catherine Opie’s portraits and the “Humans of New York” series, Jose created a dynamic yet straightforward illustration for the packaging.
With the idea that Pride celebrates diversity and inclusion - no two people are the same and that a great thing - Harry’s thought sought to infuse this idea into its design as best it could. “We wanted the final product to be more alive, imprecise and free,” said Jose. “To do this, I used irregular lines and finishing touches that seem more manual and slightly more crafty. The giant confetti pattern in the background uses a slightly refined version of the rainbow colors, aiming to deliver something fresh and more designed, while remaining colorful, roughand vibrant.”
In the same manner as the packages, Harry’s wanted each handle to be slightly different, a true positive reflection of Pride. The handles have a secondary coating that makes them iridescent, or rainbowed. The cool thing about that process is that each handle is slightly different - one might be more blue, another more pink.
Harry’s decided to create this campaign to show the brand’s continued support for the LGBTQ+ community, and to continue their social mission to alleviate mental health issues in as many ways as they can. That’s why 100% of the profits are going to the Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services LGBTQ young people. Harry’s loves collaborating with talented artists and members of the LGBTQ+ community to create unique products and campaigns, and their latest project for Pride is no different.
